Fast 50 Jahre nachdem die bahnbrechende Entscheidung des Obersten Gerichts im Fall Roe v. Wade 1973 Abtreibung in den USA legalisiert hat, stehen heute reproduktive Rechte dort erneut am Scheideweg. Reversing Roe untersucht die Situation der Abtreibung und der Frauenrechte in den USA. Der Emmy-nominierte Film präsentiert Interviews mit Schlüsselfiguren von beiden Seiten der Debatte, darunter die Ärzte Colleen McNicholas und Curtis Boyd, die Frauenrechtsikone Gloria Steinem, der Präsident von Operation Rescue, Troy Newman, und die Präsidentin der Organisation National Right to Life, Carol Tobias.
»Reversing Roe« zeigt den Stand der Debatte im Jahr 2018 und ist ein umfassender Rückblick auf den Werdegang. Anhand einer Fülle von historischem Bildmaterial wird die Zeit bis zur Roe-Entscheidung dargestellt – und der Widerstand dokumentiert, der sich seitdem formiert hat. Drei Jahre später, im Jahre 2021, stellen Gerichtsentscheidungen auf Bundesstaatsebene wie in Texas und die konservative Mehrheit im Obersten Gerichtshof die Zukunft der Roe-Entscheidung in Frage. Der Film ist ein wertvoller Beitrag zur Debatte über reproduktive Rechte, die auch in europäischen Ländern wie Polen und sogar in Deutschland geführt werden, wo das Recht auf Abtreibung nicht unumstritten ist.

Almost 50 years after it revolutionized abortion law in America, the landmark 1973 US Supreme Court case Roe v. Wade is once again at a crossroads. Reversing Roe examines the state of abortion and women’s rights in the U.S.. The Emmy-nominated film presents interviews with key figures from both sides of the divide, among them doctors Colleen McNicholas and Curtis Boyd; feminist icon Gloria Steinem; Operation Rescue president Troy Newman; and National Right to Life president Carol Tobias.
»Reversing Roe« shows the state of the debate in 2018, and is a comprehensive review of the years leading up to that point. Drawing from a wealth of historical footage, it charts the period leading up to the Roe decision—and documents the opposition that has followed ever since. Three years on, in 2021, state legal decisions such as in Texas and the conservative majority in the Supreme Court question the future of the Roe decision.
The film is a valuable contribution to debates on reproductive rights which are also ensuing in European countries such as Poland; and even in Germany, where abortion rights are not uncontested.

Wade ponownie znalazła się na rozdrożu. “Reversing Roe” analizuje stan aborcji i praw kobiet w USA. Nominowany do nagrody Emmy film prezentuje wywiady z kluczowymi postaciami z obu stron barykady, m.in. z lekarzami Colleen McNicholas i Curtisem Boydem; ikoną feminizmu Glorią Steinem; prezesem Operation Rescue Troyem Newmanem; oraz prezeską National Right to Life Carol Tobias.
“Reversing Roe” pokazuje stan debaty w 2018 roku i jest kompleksowym przeglądem lat prowadzących do tego momentu. Opierając się na bogatym materiale filmowym, przedstawia okres prowadzący do decyzji Roe – i dokumentuje opozycję i protesty, które nastąpiły potem.
